Why Do Movies Always Attract

Anyone wondered why most of the recent movies are so attractive in their appeal, presentation, direction, play and finally their outcome? Touch someone’s precious treasure and you’ll have their attention. I am referring to money, if you didn’t get it yet.

For some reason or another, one of the latest movies that I had to see was 2012. I watched it because I was curious. Somebody told me something about the movie and made me curious. All I can say is that the movie is a complete exaggeration. It starts with an idea, then goes to another, then starts another and ends in something else. It’s just full of uncreative ideas – in my own opinion.

The effects were ok, but over-exaggerated. The main message of the movie was that “the end is near”. In fact, it started with some preconceptions about the Maya calendar and it said nothing very important there, just to further jump to some solar eruptions that were causing strange manifestations on our planet. That’s all there is to this movie – this is the main line in it – the end is near and it affects our planet; save yourself with your savings!

Whoever wants to argue with me about this truth should consider the fact that the producers of the movie had used some psychological cleverness to seduce the minds of many in order to produce a lot of income out of this product. They started from the idea that man has to save himself from the future destruction of the world – an idea of eschatology that is present in almost all religions known to mankind – yet it is by everyone’s own powers – here is the human factor underlined, enthroned and triumphant. The humanism in this movie is so real that even the religious figures that were used inside the movie were not infringing any religion – although Catholic Church of Brazil sued Columbia Pictures for breaking copyright of a statue of Jesus from Rio that was destroyed in the movie (not in the real world, unfortunately). The statue of Jesus that was used in the movie depicts total glorification of self and total denial of the dependence of a Savior. I am not underlining here the aspect of statue worshiping, or the aspect of statue veneration. The Person of Jesus is who He said He is and will always be what He is no matter what statues are made in His honor or disgrace.

The fact that the statue was used in the movie in a not-so-popular way – somehow the Brazilian culture was way under ground zero – and the Maya culture – whose calendar was used to depict the year 2012 as the final year of our planet – was completely vanished from anyone’s attention, clearly states that the producers had nothing to do with the idea that was used to start-up the ground idea of the movie.

The end of the movie ends just like the flood from Noah’s days. I don’t know why they copied that from the Bible! The people from the movie were in several huge arks – well, not like the one built by Noah, automatized ones… to adapt the modern era and future developments in the solar system – and suddenly they opened the main deck and let some birds come out and realized the waters had calmed down. That is so weird. They even had animals with them inside and only the richest and most educated ones were selected to be “saved” in the arks. What an irony! What a disgrace for all the nations of the earth! It’s like a complete discrimination in just a matter of few minutes of the movie when the so called selection of the “people to be saved” is being made.

Of course, I realized the movie used special effects and that all its action was to produce thrill to the watchers. The idea was that whoever paid for his seat in the “boat” was there. This clearly is a subversion of the idea of self-salvation of man: by acts and not by trusting in a Savior. The idea here was that even if you paid for a seat on that ark, you could be outside of it and nobody even cared about you and your person. Another aspect of human nature is here brought to a high standard: self-glorification by neglecting all around.

So, if we are to analyze the movie as a whole, we can get into a strange mixture of old religions with modernism, Gnosticism, ultra-Orthodox mentality and not finally savagism and Nazism – all mixed in one play, the movie that was produced.

Personally I believe this movie is ok if you are looking for the latest sensations in the area of special effects. If you are looking for a religious explanation of the events foretold by most of the religions regarding the end of days, don’t watch this movie; you could find another more interesting thing to do, like reading some good articles on AC. Or you can read the Bible; at least it has a beginning and an end, and then trust in Jesus to save you from the future destruction of this world. At least don’t trust the statue of Jesus from Rio. That one will surely be destroyed at the end of days. You will one day remind me that what I said in this article was true. I hope so too.

  1. By the way, trusiting in a "copyrighted" image of Jesus will not bring salvation to anyone. I forgot to mention this important aspect.
